Of course, the Big Day is Monday, when EYC hosts the Volleyball Tourney!
For the record, this summer the marker is located at 53.5572110° North, 114.6398350° West. Thanks to AOSA's Bob Schimmel for his years of service in this regard!
Google Maps reveals the shallows north of the marker: The Rose Cup Race (crew must be all women) runs Saturday, July 14. Register at the EYC Clubhouse at 10:00 am, Captains Meeting at 10:30 am, Start at 12:00 pm.
Here is the official Notice of Race and Registration Form. SBYC Fleet Captain John Semple writes: 13 boats came out to race for the 2nd Wednesday night Pursuit. There were no DSQ or DNF last night! The weather was fantastic and the winds were between 4-6 Knots. There were three San Juan 24’s out with two of them doing some great match racing. Five boats from EYC and eight from SBYC made it out. We noticed a number of women at the helm, which makes us believe that the Rose Cup will have some great racing on July 14th.
Top four spots after 2 Pursuit Races
Eight races still remain in the series so lots time for movement yet. There are no Skippers meetings prior to the start of each race and these races are free and there will be prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd, at the end of the series. Once you are registered all you need to do is just show up at the start line and begin the race when appropriate based on you PHRF start time. Registration can be done prior to start on the water or preferably online before race; email to SBYC Fleet Captain [email protected] or Tim Bowles [email protected]. EYC's website has the Notice of Race, Registration Form and this members-only page to look up your boat's PHRF rating and start time. Thanks to John Semple for these photos: This summer's Single Handed Race takes place Saturday, July 7. Here is the official Notice of Race. For more information, write to Tim at [email protected].
The Spring Series (AKA the Pursuit Races) started Wednesday, June 27. Winds ran 13 to 22 knots with a triangle course. Four boats competed, two from SBYC and two from EYC: Current Ratio, Northern Brewer, Blue Wing & Point of Order.
The standings: Current Ratio in #1 position and Blue Wing in #2 position. No third due to DSQ's (disqualified for starting early). The Notice of Race and Registration Form for competing are available here. This summer's series of Wednesday evening races is underway. Here are the official Notice of Race and Registration Form.
Our web page on Racing says, "Wednesday night races are Pursuit Racing with staggered starting times based on PHRF ratings. The race lasts one hour and whoever is in front at the end wins." The bottom of that page also contains a diagram showing the course layouts we use. EYC members can go to this members-only page to look up their boat's PHRF rating. As of August 14, after seven Pursuit Races, the standings are on this members-only page. The second and final weekend of this year's Spring Series (June 16 & 170 served up much better sailing conditions that ranged from light to moderate on both days. With the better weather came five more entries for a total of 10 competitors.
Also in attendance was Drew Mitchell from North Sails. Drew spent two days on the lake, coaching the sailing teams and taking pictures and video that were presented at the SBYC clubhouse after sailing ended on Sunday. Another big thank you from both clubs and the racers for the work of the Race Committee. It was a joint effort between SBYC and EYC with SBYC's Dave Donnelly serving as the Race Officer assisted by his wife Donna and EYC Fleet Captain Tim Bowles assisted by his wife Cathy. And finally… First Place was won by… John Semple sailing Reflection! Second place went to Dan Meade in Flyaway.Bernie Reiger in Blue Wing took third. Now an EYC tradition. Bring a team or come yourself for pancake breakfast and a morning trivia activity designed for everyone -- children, youth, adults, and families. Fun, learning, and prizes for all. Usually breakfast from 9:30ish to 10:45ish with the Trivia Challenge to begin at 11:00 am. Bring your digital devices to help you and get ready to ask lots of questions of Seba Sages such as David and Patti, the Hunkas, Dwayne, Larry and Eugenia, Bob, Cary, and others who are around the grounds that day. New members most welcome, and (as history demonstrates) can win! Finishing order sets prize selection order. The call for breakfast volunteers will go out closer to the event. Marg Iveson creates the challenge, assigns points for the projects, and organizes the prizes. Plan to celebrate the morning with your EYC fellow members and friends. Bribery and piracy discouraged. No cost for members' participation in breakfast, trivia, or both.
